Not only is the cold weather leaving us with a bad case of cabin fever, my house is filthy because we're always in it! Last week I was desperate to get the bathroom clean, but every time I tried the kids were into something else, and I had to stop. Even during nap time I was thwarted because they would have heard me running the water through our creaky pipes and woken up.
Here's what I did. I took the bottle of bubble bath DD got for Christmas and dumped the whole darn thing into the tub. I filled up the tub, and then told the kids to come see the crazy bubbles. They couldn't wait to jump in the tub, and in fact they actually stayed in for 45 minutes. That was enough time to clean the bathroom and paint my toe nails. Win-win-win!

You are a genius!!!!!
ReplyDeleteA desperate genius maybe???
DeleteI've often done this! My son still wants me to keep him company while he's in the bath (he's 8--how much longer can this go on??) so it's good to be able to get a chore done during that time.
ReplyDeleteI found new motivation for cleaning the bathroom after we renovated it: Not only are the nice new fixtures more fun because I can get them actually all the way clean, but also we now have a skylight; when I'm home in daylight (in winter this is only on weekends--I work full-time, too) the bright natural light shows all the gunk on the sink and motivates me to clean, because it looks so nice after I do, and really it takes only a couple minutes to do just the sink. I found that giving myself "permission" to clean just the sink or just the toilet as I feel like it, instead of "having to" clean every surface in the room in one swoop, gets me to clean more often!
