Beer Bread
We don't drink -- not out of any moral or religious obligations -- we just don't like it. Sure, we'll have a glass of wine or champagne at a wedding, and I have an annual martini at my company's holiday party, but on the whole if there's wine or beer in the house it doesn't get consumed. That's why I look for ways to use it in food. It was with that idea in mind that I tried beer bread.
This makes a very sweet loaf, suitable for toast. You really can't find an easier recipe though -- I think it took me about 5 minutes to throw together, and maybe another three to clean up. I was thinking that packaging the dry ingredients would make a really cute gift in a jar type thing.
Beer Bread
3 C Flour
4 t baking powder
1 t salt
1/2 C sugar
12 oz beer
2 T melted butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Butter a loaf pan.
In a large bowl, mix flower, powder, salt, sugar & beer. Stir well. Pour into loaf pan & bake for 50 minutes. Remove the bread from the oven & brush it with melted butter. Bake 5 minutes more. Cool & enjoy!

I have made this. It is so delicious. I can't believe that people actually make beer bread from a mix. This is so easy!
ReplyDeleteIt would probably take more work to open the box the mix came in than to make this!
